Idle Free Project

Idle Free Project

Based on available data on the amount of CO2 emissions caused while idling, and the health effects of these emissions, we determined in 2019 to start a public awareness campaign.

We had IDLE FREE signs printed, some paper and some metal, and approached businesses in Town to install them on or near their buildings.  Some are still in view, others were accepted and never installed, and some businesses were not comfortable displaying this message to their patrons.

We appeared as an interest group at a Town Council meeting, and our member C. Verhoeven gave a reasoned and convincing presentation as to why the Town should join many other municipalities in declaring Creston an Idle Free town.  The presentation was well received, and we were assured that the Town was already considering moving towards Idle Free status.  They were establishing a no-idling standard on the staff drivers and were in the process of installing signage on all Municipal buildings and properties, such as the cemetery.

This positive collaboration was stalled by the restrictions imposed by the Pandemic.

The project has been in dormancy since.
